Networking is how almost everything in this world is accomplished. Without a solid network, be it social or otherwise, you won’t be able to get very much done in this world. Life is all about networking with the right people, and if you don’t you won’t be able to accomplish what you need to do. So start networking as soon as you can.
Having a great network starts by getting out and meeting people. Don’t be afraid to say hi to everyone you meet. Ask them questions about themselves, and learn what makes them tick if you can. Naturally most people will give you sparse answers and won’t turn into valuable parts of your network, but the few who will make all of your efforts worth it. So when you get up every day, make a note that you have to network with everyone you can. You never know who might end up being the lynchpin of your network.
Also, you want to be certain that the people you network with are trustworthy. There are two types of trust: the kind revolving around a person’s competence, and the kind that depends on a person being honest and genuine with you. If a person is just one of those two, you can’t trust them reliably. If they are only one of the two, you have to be very careful about when you can depend on them, and even if you can trust them at all. When you can, associate with people you can truly trust — and start early.
